The NBA is a professional sport where age is a significant factor. Older players have more experience than younger players who are more athletic and energetic.

The ability of a player to play at a high level into old age depends on a variety of factors. They are training, lifestyle and genetics. But there is no denying that NBA players have to take age into account.

LeBron James is the active and oldest player in the NBA at 38 years old and in his 21st season. He has been a member of the NBA since 2003.

At 45 years and 363 days old, Nat Hickey played in one game during the 1947-48 season making him the oldest player to have ever participated in the league.

Playing his first game six days after turning eighteen, Andrew Bynum became the youngest player in NBA history.

Nonetheless, there are many instances of athletes who have maintained a high caliber of play well into their 30s and even 40s.

1. LeBron James - 38 Years

LeBron James, born on December 30, 1984, is currently the oldest player in the NBA. He is widely recognized as the nickname King James.

James holds the record for most career points and fourth in assists. He played in ten NBA Finals, including eight consecutive from 2011 to 2018.

He has won four NBA championships which are two with the Miami Heat and one each with the Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers.

2. P. J. Tucker - 38 Years

P. J. Tucker is a skilled three-point shooter and a versatile defender. He has averaged 7.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals this season.

He was the Israeli Basketball Premier League Finals MVP and the MVP of the Israeli Basketball Premier League in 2008.

Along with winning an NBA championship in 2021 with the Milwaukee Bucks, he also won titles abroad in the Israeli Super League in 2008 and the German League and German Cup in 2012.

Tucker went to Raleigh, North Carolina William G. Enloe High School. He was the 2003 North Carolina Player of the Year and had his jersey number retired.

The 38-year-old player was drafted into the NBA by the Toronto Raptors with the 35th pick in the 2006 NBA.

The 37 year old player won a gold medal with the United States national team in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

He is a six-time All-Star who was selected for the 2016 All-NBA Third Team. In 2019 he and the Toronto Raptors won their first and only NBA championship.

Before being chosen by the Grizzlies in the 2006 NBA draft Lowry spent two seasons playing college basketball for the Villanova Wildcats.

Kyle Lowry was traded to Toronto in the 2012 off-season after playing four seasons in Houston. He helped the Raptors win an Atlantic Division championship in 2013-14 and make the playoffs for the first time in 6 years.

6. Al Horford - 37 Years

Al Horford is a 37 year old player who has been associated with the Boston Celtics since 2021. He has been named nicknamed Big Al by fans.

Horford was a collegiate basketball player for the Florida Gators where he started all 16 games. He led the team to back-to-back to NCAA national titles in 2006 and 2007.

The Atlanta Hawks selected him in the 2007 NBA draft. He spent nine seasons with the team before signing a free-agent contract with the Celtics during the 2016 offseason.

He joined the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2019 off-season after spending three seasons with the Celtics. He spent one season with the team before being traded to the Thunder in the 2020 off-season.

Horford made it to the NBA Finals with the Celtics after being traded to them before the 2021 season.

7. Jeff Green - 37 Years

Jeff Green was drafted into the NBA in 2007 as the fifth overall pick by the Boston Celtics. He won his first NBA championship trophy in 2023.

The six feet 8 inch played for the University of Connecticut where he won the 2005 Big East Rookie of the Year title.

Green won the title of Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament following his 30-point showing in the Big East tournament semifinal against Notre Dame and his 21-point showing in the championship game against Pittsburgh.

In his life span of 37 years, he has been associated with 13 franchises in the NBA.

8. Wesley Matthews - 37 Years

Wesley Matthews is the son of the former NBA player Wes Matthews. He was not selected in the NBA draft in 2009.

Matthews signed with the Sacramento Kings for the Las Vegas Summer League and the Utah Jazz for the Orlando Summer League. He signed a one-year contract with the Jazz in September 2009.

Robin Lopez is the Center who has played for the Milwaukee Bucks since 2023. He has a towering height of 7 feet 1 inches.

He was a pupil of Stanford where he recorded the second-highest single-season record in Stanford history with 73 blocks.
