Rose had been awarded with a scholarship to play for the University of Memphis. Coach John Calipari was in charge at that time. During his time with the team, Memphis was seeded No. 1 in the South Region and Rose's dedication to defense earned him high praise.

The 35-year-old player was selected in the first overall in the 2008 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls. He played in the Orlando Pro Summer League until he was forced out by tendinitis.

He became the first Bulls draftee to score more than 10 in his first 10 games since Michael Jordan and earned Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month during the 2008-09 season.

Derrick also won the Skills Challenge at the All-Star Weekend and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In 2011, Rose became the youngest player to ever win the NBA MVP award.

Derrick Rose signed a five-year contract extension with the Bulls in December 2011 worth $94.8 million. He injured his left knee while trying to jump during Game 1 of the first round against the Philadelphia 76ers. He later returned to play only in the 2014-15 season.

Morant played college basketball for Murray State University. He was the seventh freshman in 25 years to amass 150 assists, 150 rebounds and 10 blocks. In his senior year, he was named OVC Player of the Year and first-team All-OVC, while leading the NCAA Division I in assists in 2019.
