This may come to many as a surprise but if you glance at his family and their genetic build then it will not be surprising at all. His father Félix, a retired track and field athlete is 6'6" (1.98 m) tall. Meanwhile his mother, Elodie de Fautereau, a former basketball player stands at 6'3" (1.91 m).
While growing up, the Spurs forward also tested his skills in various other sports such as football and judo. However, after hitting puberty which resulted in a rapid increase in his height, he began to play basketball, thanks to his mom, who was a youth team coach.
He began playing for Entente Le Chesnay Versailles at age 7 and when he was ten, he joined Nanterre 92's youth program.
Impressed by Victor's build, a youth club coach Michaël Allard presented him to Nanterre's youth system in 2013.
He then signed a professional contract with Nanterre 92 in 2019 at age 15. Wembanyama has grown remarkably tall and is now one of the tallest players in basketball.
From 6'10" at 14, he grew by 4 inches in just a year and registered as 7'2" at 15.
