Duke Basketball Assistant Coaches Salaries 2023-24

Duke Basketball Assistant coaches salaries are estimated at $35,855 on average. The lowest payroll is $33,345 and the highest is $40,157 as per Indeed.

The Blue Devils Men's basketball team has been representing Duke University in NCAA D1 College basketball and the ACC. They are the fourth all-time in wins of any NCAA college basketball tournament. 

The famous Duke basketball coach was their former coach Mike Krzyzewski, who was also the former head coach and used to earn an estimated salary of $12m per year.

Jon Scheyer is the current head coach for the Blue Devils in his 2nd season. He is assisted by Chris Carrawell and Jai Lucas, who have been working as the associate head coach for the team.

The other two assistant coaches are Will Avery and Emanuel Dildy. The salaries have not yet been publicly disclosed by the officials of the assistant coaches. However, sources like Indeed reported that they earn $2,988 per month on average.

Chris Carrawell, Associate Head Coach

Chris Carrawell salary ranges between $400,000 to $500,000 per year. Carrawell was promoted to associate head coach in 2021.

Even though the actual digits remain secret, he might be getting approximately $490,000 as compared to the Ohio assistant head coach who earns $500,000 per year as of 2022.

Carrawell has been there with the Duke coaching team since March 2018.

In his first tenure with the club as the assistant head coach, he led Duke to the ACC Regular season advancing to the program's 17th NCAA Final Four. 

Chris rejoined the Blue Devils after a four-year tenure as an assistant coach at Marquette University. In his four seasons as a staff, the Duke team has gone 102-30 reaching the final four in the 2022 season, the Elite Eight in 2019, and claimed the 21st ACC Tournament title in 2019. 

Will Avery, Assistant Coach

Will Avery is expected to earn $395,000 as an assistant coach for Duke. However, no information has been released publicly regarding his salary.

Similarly with the likes of Louisville assistant coach Nolan Smith earning $400,000 annually in a base salary, Avery is also expected to earn as numbers closer around Smith.

The current assistant coach of the Blue Devils joined the program in July 2023. He was a former coach who assisted several programs from 1997 to 1999. 

In his two seasons with Duke, he teamed with associate head coach Carrawell and played 74 games averaging 11.9 points, 3.8 assists, and a .463 field goal percentage. 

He joined Duke fulfilling one of two positions available this summer due to NCAA rules change as the teams are allowed up to five assistant coaches which was previously number to three.

Jai Lucas, Associate Head Coach

Jai Lucas is one of the Duke assistant basketball coaches alongside Carrawell whose projected earning in 2023 is around $450,000 annually.

The University of Kentucky paid him $300,000 per year which he left in 2022. They replaced him with K.T Turner from Oklahoma who will be paid $500,000 annually, 67% higher than Lucas.

Leaving his duties as an assistant coach for Kentucky, he joined Duke as an assistant coach in May 2022 and was promoted to associate head coach in June 2023.

In his first season in Durham, the Blue Devils were ranked among the best defensive teams allowing only 63.6 points per game,406 field goal percentage, and .305 three-point percentage.

Prior to Duke, he was working there as a recruiting coordinator but got promoted later to assistant coach for the 2020-21 season. He was a key person in landing the three ESPN 100's class prospects of 2021.

Emanuel Dildy, Assistant Coach

Emmanuel Dildy is also the assistant coach of Duke basketball alongside Avery for the 2023-2024 season. Dildy joined the Blue Devils in August 2023.

He was a former Oklahoma assistant coach replacing the former Duke assistant coach Amile Jefferson who joined the NBA team Boston Celtics.

The paycheck of an assistant basketball coach at Duke University is not officially disclosed, but it can go from $389,000 to $415,000 per year.

Prior to Duke, he spent around three years as an assistant coach under Chris Collins at Northwestern from 2018-21. 

The Chicago native has also served at Valparaiso, Missouri, Loyola Chicago, and Eastern Illionois till 2018.

Duke Basketball Coach Salary

Duke head basketball coach makes around $7 to $8 million as an annual salary. He got promoted to head coaching role in 2022 following Krzyzewski's retirement.

The current Duke basketball coach, Jon Scheyer joined the Blue Devils as a replacement for long-term former basketball manager Mike Krzyzewski who served for 42 seasons. 

The promotion saw his salary being upgraded following his position and work responsibilities. He is the 20th head coach to join Duke in the history. 

In his first season, Duke went 27-9 finishing third in ACC, and later won the ACC Conference tournament as 2022 Champions.

Following the upcoming season, Scheyer has the full opportunity to begin recruiting the players he needs to form the team he pictures. 

Former Duke Basketball Coach 

Among the 21 coaches in the program's history, Mike Krzyzewski is considered the most famous Duke coach in history.

Duke paid him $13.7 million annual pay as his salary before his retirement after the 2021-2022 season. The manager served more than 42 seasons with the Blue Devils as a head coach since 1980.

In 2021-2022, he earned more than $12.5 million in reportable compensation from 1st July through 30th June 2021 as per the University tax returns.

Duke Womens Basketball Coach

Kara Lawson is set to make approximately $500,000 annually as the head coach of the Duke Women's basketball team.

Lawson is a former WNBA and Olympic champion and is the sixth Women's basketball coach to join Duke. She came on board for the team on 11th July 2020.

She led the Blue Devils to their best 2023 season as Duke finished with a 26-7 overall record featuring a 14-4 mark and second place finish in ACC play following a second round of the NCAA tournament. 

The 2021-2022 season saw Lawson lead the Duke team to a 17-13 overall record featuring top 25 victories over Iowa on 2nd December and Notre Dame on 2nd January 2022.

Besides Duke, Lawson also was selected as the assistant coach on Cheryl Reeve's staff for the  US Women's National Team competed in the 2022 FIFA Women's World Cup leading to a gold medal.
