Several rules and policies have been changed regarding the number of fouls committed in the game in each quarter and the fouls awarded. These changes were all verified by the National Federation of State High School Associations ( NFHS) Basketball Rules Committee.

In addition to awarding the two foul shots for the committed common fouls, the teams are awarded the bonus free throws after the opponent committed five fouls in each quarter with the foul numbers being reset in each quarter's end.

In the previous rules, the team used to get a  1 and 1 bonus after their opponent committed 7 fouls in a half and two foul shots if each half saw 10 committed fouls.

The change in the rules regarding fouls compared to the previous one has shown a decline in the player's injury rates during rebounding situations avoiding rough plays during rebounds.

The resetting of the fouls every quarter also improves the flow of the game allowing the team to readjust their team play without carrying the quantity of fouls to quarters.

Another change is regarding the free throw process which states that when the team is in control in the opponent's front court and the defensive team violates before common foul to a bonus of if the ball is dead, the free throw will be awarded in the designated spots.

Designated spots are usually in the nearest 28-foot distance along each sideline or the 3 feet outside the nearest lane line.

There is also a change in Rule 7-6-6 regarding throw-in which mentions that when an official gives a throw-in to the wrong team, the correction can be done before the first dead ball or change in possession.

Here are the other approved rule changes in high school mentioned below:

  • There will be an official shot clock operator for those teams who use the shot clock under Rule 2-1-3.
  • Multiple uniform buttons can be set on the player's uniform but it should be of like-colored and should not violate uniform rules outlined in Rule 3-6-2.
  • Rule 3-5-6 allows teams to wear a single solid color or solid black for visiting teams with dark jerseys making it easy for schools to find hard-to-find colors.
  • If the player gains no advantage, they are allowed to step out of bounds and also return to the court but will get penalized if he is the first to touch the ball after returning inbounds as mentioned in Rule 9-3-3.
