UConn Players List 2023 In WNBA

UConn players in WNBA include Diana Taurasi, Moriah Jefferson, Kiah Stokes, and Breanna Stewart. Stokes won her first Finals in 2022 with Las Vegas Aces.

There were a total of 15 women's Basketball players all on their respective rosters before the beginning of the 2023 season.

Three Huskies players committed to Phoenix Mercury while the other five teams included two players each. UConn players are there in 8 of the 12 franchises in WNBA.

The two school players, Lou Lopez Senechal and Dorka Juhasz, also were drafted during the WNBA draft making their respective squads before the 2023 season.

The university has had 45 collegiate draft picks since the league's inception in 1997 which is the most from any college basketball team.

Among the players joining the major league, 19 Huskies have won a total of 33 WNBA Championship titles whereas 4 UConn players were named the MVP including Taurasi and Stewart.

1. Diana Taurasi, PG/SG

Diana Taurasi UConn former player is a professional point guard and a shooting guard for Phoenix Mercury.

She is considered one of the greatest Women's basketball players in the history.

The 41-year-old Taurasi has a total of three WNBA titles to her name and has a record of over 10,000 career points. 

Her other individual awards include Rookie of the Year, five Olympic gold medals, five scoring titles, two WNBA finals MVP awards, and one Most Valuable Player Award.

In her regular season till 2022, she has played a total of 503 games with a .427 field goal percentage and a .363 3-point field goal percentage to date with the highest being in 2009 with .461 and .407.

She was initially from Connecticut where she played for four years with 144 games played. She had her .469 FG% and .392 3P field goal percentage in her collegiate career.

2. Moriah Jefferson, PG

UConn Wnba player Moriah Jefferson is currently a point guard for the Phoenix Mercury alongside her teammate Diana Taurasi.

Jefferson was an overall second-draft player in 2016 by the San Antonio Stars where she stayed for almost two years before getting traded to the Dallas Wings.

During her time with the Huskies, she won four consecutive National Basketball Championships and was ranked first in assists, and second in steals. 

Maria has played 140 regular season games in 6 years with 3 different teams where she managed a .444 Field goal percentage and .416 3pointer field goal percentage in her career till the 2022 season.

Besides WNBA, she was featured in the Adidas Sports Need Creator campaign ad alongside Von Miller, Paul Pogba, and James Harden.

3. Breanna Stewart, PF

Breanna Stewart is a former UConn Womens basketball player who currently plays for New York Liberty in the WNBA.

She plays as a power forward and is 6 feet and 4 inches tall. Stewart was first drafted in 2016 by the Seattle Storm where she played for six years before joining the Liberty in 2023.

Breanna is a two-time WNBA Champion and WNBA Finals MVP player in 2018 and 2020 with the Storm. She was awarded the Most Valuable Player in the same year.

Her individual achievements include the Rookie of the Year award, Scoring leader in 2022, and induction into the WNBA All-Star five times.

She has a .831 free throw percentage, 8.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.3 steals during regular season games averaging 20.3 points per game.

4. Kiah Stokes, C

Kiah Stokes is a Las Vegas Aces center in WNBA and is a former UConn basketball player. 

She was drafted as the 11th overall pick in the 2015 draft by New York Liberty. In her Junior year in Connecticut, she led her team to an undefeated streak of 40-0 clinching the 2014 National Championship title.

Kiah has been in the WNBA for eight years with 2 teams first with Liberty where she stayed till 2021 and the current team Las Vegas.

Her team Aces is now in the Semifinals of the WNBA Championship this season and is competing against the Dallas Wings.

So far in 2023, she has played 40 games starting 22 of them where she have .434 field goal percentage, .500 free throw percentage, 5.9 rebounds, and 0.7 steals per game.

5. Tiffany Hayes, SG

Tiffany Hayes is a former Connecticut Huskies guard who now plays for the Connecticut Suns in the WNBA.

She played in collegiate basketball for four years till 2012 and was drafted by Atlanta Dream in 2012 in the second round of the draft.

The Florida-born player was the leading scorer on her team during her high school averaging 18.3 points per game when her team won the State Championship in 2004 and 2007.

Hayes joins the Suns in 2023 after a long tenure with the Atlanta Dream till 2022 where she spent almost 10 years.

Till 2022, she played 277 regular games starting 234 of them. Tiffany further recorded a .429 field goal percentage, a .331 3-pointer field goal percentage, and a .797 free throw percentage.

6. Kia Nurse, PG

Kia Nurse is a Canadian Women's basketball player representing Seattle Storm in 2023 and onwards. 

She played with three teams before joining the Storm including Phoenix Mercury, Canberra Capitals, and New York Liberty. Nurse was drafted by New York Liberty in 2018 as the 10th overall pick.

In her four years at Connecticut Huskies till 2018, she played alongside Breanna Stewart and Gabby Williams. Her stats show that she averaged a .483 field goal percentage per season, a .423 3-pointer percentage, and a .784 free throw percentage.

Kia made her debut on 20th May 2018 when she scored 17 points for Liberty during an 80-76 loss to Chicago Sky.

Nurse was further inducted into the WNBA All-Star team in 2019 during the title-winning year with Canberra Capitals. She also won the 2020 WNBA Most Valuable Player award in 2020.

7. Lou Lopez Sénéchal, G/F

Lou Lopez Sénéchal is a former UConn player recently drafted in WNBA as the 5th overall pick by Dallas Wings.

The 2023 is her first season in the major league representing the Wings in the WNBA Championship. Her team is in the semifinal round and is up against the Las Vegas Aces.

In her collegiate career, she played for Fairfield from 2018 to 2022 and the Huskies for a year till 2023 before getting in the draft.

During her collegiate career, she won 3 MAAC Player of the Year in 2022 with Huskies and was inducted in First Team All-MAAC for two years in a row from 2020-2022.

She has a total of 2173 points scored with 796 field goals made, 1792 field goals attempted, and 247 three-pointers made with Fairfield and UConn.

8. Dorka Juhász, F

Dorka Juhász is a Minnesota Lynx player who was recently drafted in 2023 alongside her Huskies teammate Lou.

She played for two colleges during her collegiate career one for Ohio and a second for UConn. 

Dorka enjoys three seasons with Ohio State and the rest two seasons with UConn. Her collegiate stats show that she has played 136 games scoring 1620 points in total.

Her field goal percentage is recorded at .477 and 3 pointer at .301 with 8.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 11.9 points per game.

Juhász made her WNBA debut with the Lynx on 19th May 2023 when her team faced Chicago Sky scoring 5 points and 3 rebounds in 15 minutes.

9. Stefanie Dolson, C

Stefanie Dolson is a 2014 draft player who has been playing for New York Liberty since 2022.

She was drafted by the Washington Mystics in the first round as the 6th overall pick of the event. She used to play for the Connecticut Huskies during her college days for four years.

The 6 feet 5 inches center made her WNBA debut with the Mystics and has been in the major league for almost eight years with three different teams.

Stefanie won the WNBA Championships in 2021 with Chicago Sky and left for Liberty following the start of the 2022 season.

Her other achievements include 2 times induction into the All-Star team, the Euro League Champions in 2022, WNBA Commisoner Cup Champions, and 2 times NCAA Champions.

10. Evina Westbrook, G

Evina Westbrook was drafted in 2022 in the second round by the Seattle Storm. 

She played for the UConn basketball team for three years from 2019 to 2022 before coming to WNBA.

As far as her WNBA career is concerned she already has played for three teams including Lynx, Mystics, and Mercury before joining the Los Angeles Sparks in 2023.

Westbrook signed a seven-day hardship contract with the Sparks on 31st July 2023.

During her year ar college, she has played for Tennesse and Connecticut where she scored 1345 in 105 games played. 

Evina further has a .423 field goal percentage, a .334 3-pointer field goal percentage, and 10.3 average points per game including 3.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists.
