Mike Miller, a former Nuggets player had difficulty pronouncing the name Jokic and used to call “Yo-kitch”. So, with Nikola's approval, he coined his nickname “The Joker”.

Jokic has also posted about his nickname on social media.

The 28-year-old player has been associated with the Denver Nuggets since 2015 playing the center position.

On 26 June 2014, Jokic was the 41st pick in the second round of the NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets. His draft news was published during a Taco Bell commercial.

In December 2012, he made a contractual commitment with Mega Vizura for a season. Jokic has also played for the Adriatic League and the Serbian League from 2013 to 2014.

During his rookie year in the Nuggets, Jokic made his career-highest average of 15 rebounds with the win over the San Antonio Spurs earning him the 2016 NBA Rookie of the Year Award voting and NBA All-Rookie First Team honors.

The Canadian basketball player was drafted into the NBA in 2016 by the Denver Nuggets in the first round. He has been accompanying with them ever since.

Jamal was a scholar at Kentucky University from 2015 to 2016 where he played with the Wildcats for a season and was later featured on the Midseason Top 25 list for the John R. Wooden Award. And along with that he was awarded with Bio Steel All-Canadian MVP in 2015.
