AAU Basketball Age Groups
The athletes are categorized into various age groups by the sports organization. On the basis of the New AAU basketball rules of 2024 they are listed and described below:
- 7 & Under Division - The athlete can not be older than 7 years.
- 8 & Under Division - The player should not have exceeded the age of 8 years.
- 9 & Under Division - The contestant should be of age 9 years or below.
- 10 & Under Division - The participant should not have crossed the age of 10.
- 11 & Under Division - The sportsperson must be 11 years or below.
- 12 & Under Division - The player cannot transcend the age of 12 years.
- 13 & Under Division - The athlete should not have crossed the age of 13 years.
- 14 & Under Division - The participant must be 14 or below.
- 15 & Under Division - The maximum age for an athlete in this division is 15 years.
- 16 & Under Division - The player should not be older than 16 years.
- 17 & Under Division - The contestant must be 17 or below to participate in the division.
- 20 & Under Division - The participants can not exceed the age of 20 years.
All the above-mentioned ages are to be calculated before the 1st of September 2024.
Along with the Age group division, there is a provision for dividing the teams on the basis of the grades the athletes study in. The grades rank all the way from 1st to 11th.
However, there might be districts that do not have tournaments that are based on the grade. So, to assist the team in qualifying for the grade-based AAU World Championship Tournament in these districts a rule has been set up.
The player from a grade department can play in age-based events by playing 1 division higher. Thus, a team from the 5th standard can play in the 12 and under age category similarly, a 6th standard team can play in the 13 and under category.
