AAU Basketball Age Rules 2023

AAU basketball age rules 2023 state that a player in grade 1 should not be older than 7 years. They must be of the specified age by 1st September 2023.

It stands for Amateur Athletic Union and was founded on 21st January 1888. It was established to assist the growth of amateur sports in the country.

The sports organization as of September 2023 has a total of 700,000 members. The motto of the organization is "Sports for All Forever".

The Union has been active in most of the games played in the country. Badminton, soccer, karate, football and basketball are some of its examples.

AAU also hosts amateur Olympic games. It hosts a multi-sport event for the youth in the country and more than 18,000 participants from all over the 50 states take part in the event.

However, The athlete should have an annual renewal membership of the organization to take part in their events.

AAU Basketball Age Groups

The athletes are categorized into various age groups by the sports organization. On the basis of the New AAU basketball rules of 2024 they are listed and described below:

  • 7 & Under Division  - The athlete can not be older than 7 years.
  • 8 & Under Division - The player should not have exceeded the age of 8 years.
  • 9 & Under Division - The contestant should be of age 9 years or below.
  • 10 & Under Division - The participant should not have crossed the age of 10.
  • 11 & Under Division - The sportsperson must be 11 years or below.
  • 12 & Under Division - The player cannot transcend the age of 12 years.
  • 13 & Under Division -  The athlete should not have crossed the age of 13 years.
  • 14 & Under Division - The participant must be 14 or below.
  • 15 & Under Division - The maximum age for an athlete in this division is 15 years.
  • 16 & Under Division - The player should not be older than 16 years.
  • 17 & Under Division - The contestant must be 17 or below to participate in the division.
  • 20 & Under Division - The participants can not exceed the age of 20 years.

All the above-mentioned ages are to be calculated before the 1st of September 2024.

Along with the Age group division, there is a provision for dividing the teams on the basis of the grades the athletes study in. The grades rank all the way from 1st to 11th.

However, there might be districts that do not have tournaments that are based on the grade. So, to assist the team in qualifying for the grade-based AAU World Championship Tournament in these districts a rule has been set up.

The player from a grade department can play in age-based events by playing 1 division higher. Thus, a team from the 5th standard can play in the 12 and under age category similarly, a 6th standard team can play in the 13 and under category.

Valley Basketball Association Development League

The event is from 3rd September 2023 to the 31st December 2023. There are a total of 5 locations dedicated for the event.

The venue for the events is Big Valley Christian High School, Modesto City Schools, Modesto Junior College, Oakdale High school and Oakdale Junior High.

The league is a for both boys and the girls. The participants are categorized either on the basis of grade or on the basis of age.

The range varies from 7U/1 Grade to 19U/12 Grade. The matches in all the brackets have started and are set to finish at the same time.

Karl Malone Fall League

The league is an invitational tournament held from 15 September 2023 to 11 November 2023. The matches are held in Karl Malone Training Center.

It is a youth tournament that is totally grade-based. The grade bracket starts from 2nd grade all the way to 12th grade.

The event is for both the boys and the girls.

Utah Competitive Basketball Association League

The association held a league from the 15th of September 2023 to the 31st of December 2023. The event is a youth tournament for both boys and girls.

The event is being held at 19 different venues. Some are 801 Basketball Facility, BWII Sports, Nebo School District and Providence Hall.

The event follows both the age and grade bracket. The categories vary from 9U/3rd grade to 19U/ 12th grade.

Phoenix Athletics Fall 2023 Basketball League

The basketball League is held from the 16th of September to the 21st of October of 2023. It is held at Del Lago Academy.

The event is for both the boys and the girls. It has either Age/grade or just the age bracket.

The participating club can participate in an age division where the categories are 9 & Under to 14 & Under simultaneously. In addition to that, there is also a provision for youth athletes over 14 and they are in 20 & Under.

Similarly for the club participating under the age/grade section, categories have been divided. It is divided from 7U/1st Grade to 19U/12th grade.

How Much Does AAU Basketball Cost?

The regular AAU membership costs $20 for the youth athletes. It is valid from the 1st of September to the 31st of August and has to be renewed annually.

The organization categorizes the participants from the age of 7 to 20 as youth. In addition to that the Non Athletic membership is divided into three parts which are as follows:

  • Lvl 1 Membership - $30
  • Lvl 2 Membership - $60
  • Lvl 3 Membership - $300

Level 1 

The membership is for nonathletes who are only interested in participating in the events organized by the association. The membership cost depends upon the no. of clubs you are participating with.

The expenses required to participate are $30 per club. However, If they want to participate in non-AAU-hosted games then extended coverage membership should be purchased.

All the members of the team including the coach must be a holder of that pass. It is just an extra $2 from the regular membership.

Level 2

This is the perfect membership for clubs that are interested in participating in the tournaments as well as hosting them. The cost for it is $60 per club.

The tournaments hosted by these Lvl 2 organizations are supported by AAU. However, they need to apply for a license to organize such events.

Level 3

It is the most expensive membership program costing $300 per club. This pass also provides the franchise with the 5019(c)3 letter within two or three weeks.

The members of this program are also eligible for tax exemption donations.

But despite the club level, all the coaches and players must be AAU members to participate in the events.

Kissimmee All-Stars

The All Stars are located in Kissimmee Florida. It is a training facility for amateur athletes.

They are the 14U/8th grade AAU world champions of 2023. The center also focuses its disciples on building family Relationships and Character training.

SCE Lamarre

Lamarre is the team from the Skills Center Elite Training Academy. The center is located in Tampa, Florida

Located on the eastern side of the state, it has been serving as a facility for students aged 3 to 18.  The center focuses and sports and life skills growth of the athletes.

TNBASouth Jayhawks

TNBA stands for The National Basketball Academy. It is located in Florida.

They were ranked 5th on the previous 2023 14U/8th-grade world Championship. 

Orlando Warriors

Warriors are an academy from Florida that specializes in training young athletes. They provide facilities for all the age divisions of AAU.

During the 2023 world championship for the 14U/ 8th grade, they were ranked 6th. They are active in other sports like soccer.

The club is open for AAU Basketball tryouts for the 2028 class until the end of 2023. The registration form is found on the official website of the club.
